50 Years of music. One Love.

Richman Poorman is a feature documentary that reveals the untold story of reggae’s difficult and triumphant international journey through one of the music’s most prolific and under-appreciated masters, former Gladiators member Clinton Fearon. The film follows three turbulent yet highly creative years in Clinton’s life, as he pushes through personal and financial hardships to reach new audiences and explore untapped musical frontiers. In his search for truth and rhythm, Clinton voyages to his ancestral West Africa, collaborates with fellow reggae legends as well as talented local musicians, and produces some of the most important music of his career.

Richman Poorman also uncovers untold histories of reggae music, tracing Clinton’s roots from Jamaica’s forested highlands to the hard streets and legendary studios of Kingston; and on to the international stage, where he would witness the true unifying power of this “likkle island music.” After 18 years of touring and recording with the internationally renowned Gladiators, he would choose a new path, joining the burgeoning international music scene of Seattle, where a sound called grunge was just starting to get noticed. There, supported by a tight-knit community of musicians, artists and loyal friends, he would pursue his songwriting craft, eschewing material wealth and fame to embrace artistic fulfillment and true happiness. And living his personal motto, “Do what you love and love what you do!”
